We know we couldn't do it without our many wonderful volunteers! We rely on volunteers to chaperone football games, trips & special events, organize T-shirt sales, wash uniforms, take pictures for our website, and organize special events like Senior Night, 8th grade night, and our annual end-of-year Band Banquet. We hope they know how much we appreciate their time & energy!

Mark Your Calendars....Pep Band for Incoming 9th Graders on Tuesday, March 20, 2018
The marching band will perform stands music as parents and students arrive for incoming 9th grade info night. This is a great way to promote our band program, and will provide a fun welcome to next year’s freshman. I would like to have the entire marching band in attendance, so put this date on your calendar ASAP!
4:00-5:00 – stands music rehearsal in the band room
5:00-6:00 – performance in front of the school
6:00 - dismissal

It’s hard to believe that we are just a one day away from our Orlando trip!! The kids are excited and so are we! I just wanted to take a moment to detail a few last minute reminders as we prepare to travel later this week. Please read this letter completely as there is a lot of important information.
I have been checking the extended weather from “Accuweather” app and here is what we can expect for weather in Orlando this week/weekend. Please understand that weather can change on a moment’s notice – especially in Florida!) and that I am simply giving ideas on what to pack in order to be prepared. (Please feel free to check other apps or weather stations if you like.)
Thursday 2/15/18 (departing NSCHS at 2 pm): traveling to Orlando. Dinner stop in Valdosta, Ga. Dress comfortably for the bus. (8 hours travel time plus meal stop)
Friday 2/16/18 (Hollywood Studios): high of 86, low of 61, Sunshine and patchy clouds. 8% chance of rain. We will be in the park all day long. Dress appropriately for the weather. Comfortable shoes. Eat well, stay hydrated. Make sure you get plenty of rest tonight. Tomorrow will be a LONG day!
Saturday 2/17/18 (Epcot)- This is also the day of the workshop: high of 83, low of 62, partly sunny and very warm, 25% chance of rain. We will be in the park all day. Dress appropriately. This is the day we will wear our Trip shirts. The workshops are at 9:15 PM. Yes PM! Band and orchestra kids will meet at 8 pm to load the bus to travel to Hollywood studios where our workshop is. Choral students will stay at Epcot for their workshop. Both workshops conclude at 11:45 pm. The band/orchestra students will load bus and we will head back to Epcot to pick up Chorus students and return to the hotel. Eat well, stay hydrated and do not overdo yourselves today, you need to be focused for the workshop in the evening.
Sunday 2/18/18 (Magic Kingdom): high of 85, low of 63, mostly sunny today, 21% chance of rain. We will be in the park all day. Dress appropriately. Eat well. Stay hydrated. This is our last full day in the parks. Tonight at hotel, pack your things and leave out what you need to tomorrow.
Monday 2/19/18 (Animal Kingdom) high of 87, low of 64, partly sunny and very warm. 13% chance of rain. We check out of the hotel this morning and will load the buses with all our things as we will not return to the hotel. We will spend ½ the day at the park and depart for home around 2 pm. Again, dress accordingly for the day- keeping mind bus travel in the afternoon/evening. We will stop again in Valdosta, Ga on the way home for dinner. We will call parents/text/etc. when we are about an hour out from school to allow time for parents to get to school. Parents, please be on time to pick up your children. We will be in communications with you throughout the trip, so please plan accordingly.
WHAT TO PACK- Seeing the above weather forecast, please pack accordingly. You will need clothing for warmer weather. We all will wear our Trip t-shirts on SATURDAY. Please make sure you pack your TRIP t-shirt. We will do quite a bit of walking, so make sure you have comfortable shoes. Everything else packing wise, I leave to your discretion. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND- THIS IS A SCHOOL TRIP AND ALL ATTIRE MUST BE SCHOOL and WEATHER APPROPRIATE!! (Also, please limit yourself to one medium sized suitcase per person. If you need more than 1 suitcase for a 4 day trip, you are over packing.) We will have 54 suitcases and 35 instruments to pack on the bus so pack appropriately and conservatively. You may bring a small carry on for the bus if you so desire.
SPENDING MONEY- Students will need to bring money for souvenirs and shopping. They will also need to have money for Dinner on Thursday and Monday evening. All other meals are included in the cost of trip.
BUS ETIQUETTE- The bus will depart at 2 pm. We will stop for dinner, but students can bring snacks for the bus ride. There is not a microwave on the bus or anything to warm up food, so please do not send anything that needs to be heated up. STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE for keeping a clean area. We will be with this bus for 4 days, let’s not travel in a mess. Please bring movies to watch on the bus (school appropriate- G, PG, or PG13 only!) Bring things to keep you entertained while on the bus. BRING YOUR HOMEWORK if you want! You will have 16 total hours of travel that you can use to catch up/get ahead/etc. Use your time wisely. You are responsible for any work you miss and getting it completed and turned in upon our return. They can bring electronics but keep in mind charging options might be limited on the bus! So they need to use their battery wisely. Most buses now-a-days have Wi-Fi on them, but I am not sure of this yet for our bus.
CHAPERONES- We have 6 adults traveling on this trip and students MUST CHECK IN with their chaperone at the designated check in times. We will be in the parks all day so we want you to have as much fun and free time to enjoy the parks but you MUST adhere to all check in times. Miss a check in time, or show up late and there will be consequences. You must communicate with your chaperone!! Plan rides accordingly with the set times we will give you. STUDENTS ARE NEVER TO BE ALONE IN THE PARKS! You must stay in groups of 2-3 at all times!! Students will be in groups of 8 students per adult.
MEDICAL ITEMS- If your student has any medical need, please make sure that all meds are packed in a zip lock bag and labeled with their name on it. I will collect all meds before we leave. I MUST HAVE A MEDICAL RELEASE FROM EACH STUDENT NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

The Music Department will hold a Disney Trip Meeting on Monday, Feb 12, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the North Springs school cafeteria. Parents and students should plan to attend.
Dear Parents and Students,
North Springs Bands will again be participating in the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation in March at Johns Creek High School. This is our opportunity to perform for a panel of judges for evaluation against nationally recognized standards for music education. Think of it as an EOC test for band.
Parents, this performance is free and open to the public. It would mean a lot to the students to have some familiar faces in the audience. Also, I will need at least two chaperones to travel with us by bus. Please contact me at email@example.com if you are available.
LGPE is an important event, and the Fulton County Schools Music Department places a high priority on our participation. This is one measure that Fulton County uses to ensure that our music students are receiving the education that they deserve and one that meets national standards for music excellence. In order to perform at our best, we must have every student in attendance. Barring emergency, I expect every student to attend.

Dear Band students & parents/guardians:
Our Winter Band Concert is coming up on Tuesday, Dec. 12th at 7:00 PM in the auditorium. Intermediate band students should be on stage at 6:20 PMready to warm up. Advanced band students should report to the band room at 6:20 PM to warm up. All students should be dressed in full concert attire (NO denim).
Reminder for students who are going on the Orlando trip in February & paying in installments:
The next payment ($187.50) is due on Monday, Dec. 18th. Pay online through OSP (use the link on the school's HOME page, bottom of page on the right) or by dropping a check or money order in the lock box in the band room.
