Answers to all of your questions about joining the

Q  Are students required to be part of the Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) Magnet program to be part of the band?

No, students can participate in Concert Band and/or Marching Band without being a part of the VPA Magnet program.

Q  Are students required to join both Concert Band AND Marching Band to be part of the band program?

No, students can choose to participate in Concert Band (band as a class) alone OR Marching Band (extracurricular) alone...OR BOTH.

Q  How often does the band practice?
Concert Bands (Intermediate & Advanced Band) practice every day in class with opportunities for open practice before or after school with a pass from Mr. Brown.

The Marching Band practices 2x per week (after school, 4:00 PM-6:00 PM) during Marching Band season which is mid-Aug to late-Oct. In addition, students are required to attend Band Camp (typically the week before school starts) from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the school.

Q  How much does it cost to join?
Dues for Concert Band (both Intermediate & Advanced Bands) is $25 for the year which covers materials like method books, sheet music, and instruments.

Dues for Marching Band is $200 for the year which covers uniform*, band T-shirt, dinner before all football games that the band participates, admission to the game, and bus transportation to all away games & marching band events.   *The only uniform item not included are marching shoes (Dinkles Glide, $25

Both Concert Bands have regularly scheduled performances throughout the year as well as a performance at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) in the spring.

Yes! The North Springs Spartan Band Boosters offer a Senior Scholarship for any graduating senior in the band program who wishes to apply. Applications are typically due in late April/early May. Details can be found under the "News" tab on the Band website.

Q  Does participation in Marching Band qualify for a PE waiver?

Yes! Students who participate in Marching Band for two (2) seasons will qualify for a PE (physical education) waiver through Fulton County Schools which means that they will not have to take Personal Fitness as a class in high school. This waiver is NEW for Marching Band (approved April 2018) and only applies to future participation in Marching Band (not retroactive).
